Asia Pacific Disaster Resilience Centre

 

 

 

 

Post Title:

 

Volunteer for the Asia Pacific Disaster Resilience Centre

 

Duration:

 

6 months (Full participant should be guaranteed )

 

10th September ~ 31st December, 2018

 

Duty Station:

 

Incheon (Songdo), Korea  / Seoul (Meyong-dong), Korea

 

 

 

Background:

 

 

 

With an increasing number of natural disasters and emerging humanitarian issues in Asia and the Pacific, it is imperative for the 38 National Societies to create an agent who can provide an intermediary service as well as introduce innovation and technology to effectively meet the growing needs of vulnerable people. As such the Republic of Korea National Red Cross (KNRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Asia Pacific Regional Office have jointly initiated the establishment of the region’s first Reference Centre on disaster risk reduction and community resilience. The Centre is expected to a) manage and share information by learning, documenting, improving and disseminating existing models and cases; b) conduct researches on issues pertaining to community resilience and humanitarian actions; c) promote and implement resilience policies and strategies; d) provide technical assistance to support resilience efforts of Asia Pacific National Societies and partners; and e) create networks and partnerships amongst Asia Pacific National Societies and partners by reinforcing advocacy and communications

 

 

 

Major duties and responsibilities

 

1.      Supporting roles for case studies on disaster resilience and mapping the collected date for visualization

 

2.      Research existing trainings related to Serious Game and translation English material into Korean and vice versa

 

3.      Support International events/workshops/seminars held in Korea such as Interactive Innovation Workshop or Lessons and learn for Road Map to Resilience etc

 

4.      Post or upload articles regarding DRR and Community Resilience to the centre’s official SNS accounts and supporting managing the centre’s web site

 

Output expectations:

 

1.      Korean/English version documents

 

2.      Collected case studies and good practices

 

3.      Well organized SNS posting and web site

 

4.      Well organized international workshops or events

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Fluency in English required

 

Basic computer skill and understanding on Red Cross Movement and Humanitarian activities

 

Required competencies:

 

·Technical –

 

o   Research and analytical skills and the ability to synthesize data and notes into a clear and concise database and report

 

o   Knowledge of Excel, PPT and Word

 

·Managing resources – Organizes and manages information in an optimum manner

 

·Communication –

 

o   Effectively presents data and information in a way amenable to sharing with colleagues

 

o   Listens well to instructions and feedback

 

·Good interpersonal skills – able to work well in a team environment

 

·Ability to work independently and show initiative

 

Expected Guidance and Support/Developing Opportunities for Volunteers:

 

·Daily guidance/support available from supervisor

 

·Provision of any information useful to the work assigned

 

·Experience working for both IFRC and Korean Red Cross headquarters

 

 

 

Supervisor:

 

First : Group leaders selected from participants

 

Second: Director of the APDRC

 

Reporting relationship:

 

Reports progress monthly to the group leader

 

Expenses/Cost:

 

The Centre will only incur costs for meals and travel cost maximum 10,000 won per day (1 meal per working days).

 

 

 

All other cost for living expenses, overcharged travel cost, visa application fees and any other costs related to the volunteer activities MUST be borne by the participants unless provided for by a sponsoring institution, e.g. university, education programme, etc.

Participation in the kick off meeting is necessary on 10th July.

 

# The expected venue will be the HQs of the KRC in Seoul.

 

 

 

There would be several students selected from the University in Korea.

 

 

 

The team leader will be selected at the kick off meeting among the all participants.
