SUNY Korea was established in March 2012 as the first American university system in Incheon, South Korea. In 2012, Stony Brook University which is a prestigious university that represents the SUNY system began to offer programs in South Korea as part of the Ministry of Education’s decision to serve the transnational needs for quality and global education. In 2017, Fashion Institute of Technology, a world leading fashion school joined the cause to offer their renowned programs at SUNY Korea.
Currently, SUNY Korea offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Technological Systems Management, Applied Mathematics and Statistics, Business Management, and Electrical Engineering from Stony Brook University (SBU) and associate programs in Fashion Design and Fashion Business Management from Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). Students of SUNY Korea can expect to experience the authentic American higher education and they can choose to take courses in both South Korea and the U.S.
INTENSIVE ENGLISH CENTER (IEC)
The Intensive English Center (IEC) at SUNY Korea has been offering a program of courses and activities, identical to our sister program at Stony Brook University in New York, providing educational and cultural opportunities while promoting English proficiency for academic purposes. Our main priority is to support our students’ language and cultural needs in acquiring the knowledge and language skills necessary to prepare them for intercultural communication. With exposure to the intensive English courses offered in the SUNY Korea IEC, students can become not only fluent in the English language but also mentally prepared for the challenges of being international students.
REPONSIBILITIES
Teach a variety of academic courses according to the curriculum and standards of the SUNY Stonybrook campus. The courses, designed to prepare English learners for study in an American context, will total 19 hours per week.
Have additional responsibilities that include counseling students, service in the IEC program and the Writing Center, and other assignments designated by the director.
Maintain knowledge of current trends in the discipline through scholarly activity and professional development.
Participate in professional development opportunities to address the college’s goals.
