Reinstatements

Reinstatements allow students to regain their scholarship eligibility under specific circumstances, such as when they return from a Leave of Absence (LOA) or fail to meet the continuing scholarship/financial aid criteria, but are still eligible to petition for reinstatement.

If a student loses their scholarship/financial aid due to factors like not maintaining the required GPA or failing to meet full-time enrollment requirements, they may submit a reinstatement petition. This petition allows the student to request the return of their scholarship/financial aid, provided they meet the established criteria for reinstatement, which may include submitting supporting documentation, such as a doctor’s note or evidence of extenuating circumstances.

The scholarship committee reviews each petition, considering factors such as the student’s situation and academic history. If the petition is approved, the scholarship may be reinstated.

    • SUNY Korea students must submit the Leave of Absence Form to the department before taking a leave of absence.
    • Scholarship/financial aid recipients must submit the Reinstatement form when they apply for the rematriculation to avoid termination.
    • A student who assumes such status due to medical or any other serious reason may appeal in writing to the SUNY Korea Scholarship Committee to have his or her scholarship/financial aid reinstated. The appeal must be submitted with supporting documentation (i.e., Doctor’s note).
    • The maximum continuing period for any scholarship being reinstated is counted from term it was first provided. In the case of a recipient who has decided to take a semester leave after the first day that a new semester has begun, as the transaction for tuition and/or all the supporting fees has already been processed, that term will also be counted towards the maximum continuing period

A Scholarship/Financial Aid Recipient Will Lose Eligibility if They:

    • Enroll in fewer than the required full-time credits (if full-time enrollment is a condition for maintaining the scholarship).
    • Withdraw, are suspended, or are dismissed from the University.
    • Take an unauthorized leave of absence.
  • For students who do not meet the continuation criteria outlined in the Merit-Based Scholarships/Financial Aid for Incoming Students, an official scholarship discontinuation letter will be issued in accordance with the SUNY Korea Undergraduate Scholarship/Financial Aid Guide. If applicable, students may submit a petition for reinstatement. Such petitions will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee on a case-by-case basis, and the final decision will be communicated to the student in a timely manner.
