SUNY Korea SUNY KOREA MUSEUM OF MODREN COSTUME BACK TO THE PLASTIC, VINYL, & METAL FUTURE 11.10.2020-04.30.2021 FIT State University of New York

During the space race era of the 1960s, people had become fascinated with outer space and hoped for a new planet and new thrilling future. Also, the development of new textile materials in the previous decade allowed space age fashion designers to design garments with non-traditional materials such as polyester and PVC.  It was an era of pushing boundaries whether that meant for silhouettes or materials of garments. This exhibition was planned to show the Korean designer's garments mostly from the 1990s that were inspired by the space look of the 1960s and were made with non-cloth materials.  They still truly feel new and exciting and make us imagine the "future.” We hope this exhibition becomes a chance for you to time travel to the past which will make you imagine a hopeful and thrilling future during this unprecedented time of COVID-19.
