Dear Faculty,

 

Welcome and welcome back. I hope that everyone had a satisfying and productive summer and is settling in well with the new semester. This notice contains three important resources that can help with student wellbeing and success.

 

The Career Development Center (CDC)

The job market is not only becoming exceedingly competitive but is also currently being restructured. As a result, it is necessary for students to start planning for their future early in order to prepare for the changing dynamics. It is important for them to take advantage of opportunities on and off campus that can give them experience, help build their resumes, and assist them in becoming career-ready. However, many of our students have not visited the Career Development Center. Unfortunately, reaching students through email and social media is not always effective. We kindly ask for your assistance in encouraging students to take an active role in their future planning and utilize the resources and services offered. 

 

I have attached some general information about the CDC, as well as the suggested four-year plan that outlines what students should be doing each year while attending SUNY Korea. Please consider reinforcing this information to your students and advise them to visit the CDC early and often. 

 

The Counseling and Wellness Center 

As many of you know, the university offers free counseling to students, faculty, and staff. This is an extremely important resource and disseminating this information should come from multiple sources. There is still a stigma that exists regarding mental health problems and seeking help. In order to fight this stigma, we need to normalize taking care of mental health and we need to create a supportive environment for those that are struggling. Please make use of our Counseling and Wellness Center (details attached) and encourage students to do the same. 

 

Disability Support Services

The university also offers special accommodations for students with physical, psychological, medical or learning disabilities that may impact their course work. If a student asks you directly about accommodations, please have them contact the Student Affairs Office, Academic Building A, Room 208, +82 32-626-1198. We will determine what accommodations, if any, are necessary and appropriate. All information and documentation are confidential. Students who require assistance during emergency evacuation are also encouraged to discuss their needs with their professors and the Student Affairs Office.
