About Fashion Institute of Technology: The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, of the State University of New York, invites nominations and applications for adjunct faculty positions in the Fashion Design program at the FIT at SUNY Korea in Songdo, Korea. The Fashion Institute of Technology, a part of the State University of New York, has been a leader in career education in art, design, business, and technology for nearly 70 years. With a curriculum that provides a singular blend of hands-on, practical experience, classroom study, and a firm grounding in the liberal arts, FIT offers a wide range of outstanding programs that are relevant to today's rapidly changing industries. Internationally renowned, the college offers two majors, and grants AAS degrees in Korea in Fashion Business Management and Fashion Design, preparing students for professional success and leadership in the global marketplace.

Department Statement: The Fashion Design program provides the expertise students need to develop the skills necessary to become competitive, forward-thinking graduates, for positions in the fashion industry and related fields. The program offers a wide range of learning experiences through the rigorous AAS curriculum where they develop critical thinking, strong design aesthetics, and technical abilities. Faculty members are industry professionals who draw on industry connections to provide students with an in-depth view of the fashion design industry.

Job Description: The SUNY Korea Fashion Design department is seeking to hire faculty in its apparel and art areas with relevant industry experience. Ideal candidates for the apparel area will be established fashion designers, or have experience as master pattepattern makerster sewers, or master drapers. Ideal candidates for the art area should be established fashion designers with the ability to teach visual design concepts, fashion studio art, and or digital fashion art courses.

Possible Teaching Courses: 

The successful (ART) candidate should be able to teach one or more of the following Fashion Design Art Courses:

  • Fashion Art Studio
  • Visual Design Concepts
  • Design Development Digital

The successful (TECHNICAL) candidate should be able to teach one or more of the following Fashion Design Technical Courses:

  • Sewing Levels 1 and 2
  • Pattern Making Levels 1-2
  • Draping Levels 1-3

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates are required to have six (6) years of professional experience as a fashion designer or the technical equivalent of a master patternmaker, draper, or master sewer. A Bachelor’s degree is required. Candidates are required to present a strong portfolio showcasing their professional work, inclusive of relevant press and/or industry acknowledgments. Excellent English oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrate a track record and commitment to maintaining updated technical skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software.

Application Instructions: The adjunct faculty positions in this department at SUNY Korea will begin in Spring 2023.
