The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, of the State University of New York, invites nominations and applications for adjunct faculty positions in the Fashion Design program at the FIT at SUNY Korea in Songdo, Korea. The Fashion Institute of Technology, a part of the State University of New York, has been a leader in career education in art, design, business, and technology for nearly 70 years. Department Statement:

The Fashion Design program provides the expertise students need to develop the skills necessary to become competitive, forward thinking graduates for positions in the fashion industry and related fields. The program offers a wide range of learning experiences through the rigorous AAS curriculum where they develop critical thinking, strong design aesthetics and technical abilities. Faculty members are industry professionals who draw on industry connections to provide students with an in-depth view of the fashion design industry.

 

 

Job Description:     

The Fashion Design Department seeks a fashion design art faculty member with relevant industry experience who can convey a strong introductory design vision that advances student learning and confidence through supportive academic and creative excellence. S/he must possess areas of knowledge, talent, and expertise in hand drawing, CAD fashion software program/s, and development of design aesthetics with related teaching experience. A sufficiently diverse design background will enable the candidate to prepare students for leadership positions in the fashion design industry.

 

 

Possible Teaching Courses 

The candidate should be able to teach one or more of the following fashion/Design courses;

- FF211: Visual Design Concepts III

- FF 212: Visual Design Concepts IV 

- FF 244: Design Collections: Visual Solutions

- FF 245: Digital Design: Flats and Floats

 

 

Requirements 

- Bachelor’s degree required and master’s degree preferred.

- Minimum of six (6) years of professional experience as a fashion designer with excellent knowledge of design concept development and artistic/technical proficiency in various aspects of visual design communication

- A strong fashion portfolio demonstrating fashion design skills.

- Excellent English oral and written communication skills.

- Three (3) years or more teaching experience in higher education is preferred.

Master’s degree strongly preferred.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess several or all the above listed qualifications.

 

 

Demonstrated Expertise 

Ideal candidates will demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas:

- Superior fashion drawing, rendering and portfolio presentation skills

- Photoshop/Illustrator digital skills as they apply to Fashion Design

- Microsoft Office Suite software proficiency

- Demonstrates ability to communicate through technology and utilize college course management system and FIT portal.
