SUNY Korea invites applications for the position of President.
SUNY is the largest comprehensive public university system in the United States. It was established in 1948 and consists of 64 universities located within the State of New York.
SUNY Korea was established in March 2012 as the first American university founded in Korea, with a goal of cultivating future global leaders. The university is located in Songdo Incheon Free Economic Zone, the fastest growing smart city. The setting is exceptional for a university that aspires to be a hub for global education, research, and innovation. The SUNY Korea campus is located within 3.5 hours flying time to cities and regions that include 1/3 of the world’s population; its surroundings are designed to allow higher education institutions, government agencies, global corporations, and international organizations to create enhanced synergy.
Currently, SUNY Korea enrolls approximately 1,000 students from 36 different countries and is offering seven undergraduate and four graduate degree programs: Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Technological Systems Management, Applied Mathematics and Statistic, and Business Management through Stony Brook University (SBU); and Fashion Design and Fashion Business Management through Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). By offering exceptional prestigious programs and an opportunity of expanding students’ horizon abroad, SUNY Korea is getting one step closer to becoming an exemplary higher education institution in the era of the fourth industrialrevolution.
SUNY Korea will appoint its second President in 2020. The university seeks a President who is visionary, experienced administrator, strategic planner, skilled fundraiser, and an outstandingcommunicator.Theidealcandidateshouldhaveunquestionedintegrity,arecord of exemplary leadership, a strong sense of academic entrepreneurship, and respect for the vision and mission of the university. The next President will be required to continue the growth that aligns with the University’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values and will build on the existing strengths and achievements of theUniversity.
The next President will work closely with the Board of Managers and the leadership of home campuses in New York, and will work collaboratively with various campus constituenciesincluding faculty, staff, and students. In addition, the next President will maintain and develop constructive relationships with Korean national government and Ministries, Incheon city government, and the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority. Thus, understanding of both Korean and American cultures is desirable.
