Teaching Faculty Positions
in the Department of Fashion Design FIT at SUNY Korea
The Fashion Design Department at SUNY Korea seeks full-time faculty members within the Apparel Area with professional experience in design leadership. Candidates with design experience that includes classic draping, pattern making, and sewing techniques will be considered. The ideal candidate will be a senior designer who can demonstrate the ability to fluidly drape, pattern and sew intricately designed garments. A well-versed senior designer or a highly skilled technician-(one who has specialized in draping/patternmaking or sewing) will be considered for the position. Six years of experience as a senior designer, or higher, is required. If a candidate is a “master” technician rather than a designer, they must show eight years of experience as a senior craftsman. A Fashion Design major with a B.A. is required, although an M.A. is preferred. Prior teaching experience is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will be able to execute original design sketches in combination with hands-on, traditional techniques. The candidate will also possess a thorough knowledge of current fashion practices across several methodologies, an understanding of market trends, and an appreciation of emerging technologies. The new faculty member will teach core AAS foundational courses. The candidate will be able to both demonstrate and assist students with the draping, patterning, and sewing of original garments. We seek candidates with the potential to actively contribute to the core undergraduate teaching missions of the department, and who will serve the university and the community. SUNY Korea (FIT) is committed to delivering the highest-quality AAS undergraduate program in the Fashion Design area, while providing a comprehensive American university experience in Korea. The degrees at SUNY Korea Fashion Design are granted by the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) of SUNY. For further information please visit www.sunykorea.ac.kr.
