Dear Students and Faculty,     I hope you are all having a safe and healthy semester while enjoying your classes.     Earlier in February we announced our plan for Spring classes as you can see in the email I am including below for your reference.     As we assess the Covid-19 situation today, we have decided to continue the current mode of classes until April 23, 2021. We will reassess the situation on April 19, 2021 and decide whether to continue with the current plan beyond April 26, 2021 or not.     Academic Affairs will follow up with class-specific information soon and Student Affairs will follow up with housing-related information as it gets finalized with the IGC Foundation.     Please follow the Covid-19 safety measures at all times.     We hope to see you all on campus with in-person classes soon.         Sincerely, Arthur Lee

SUNY Korea Stony Brook will newly introduce the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (B.E., M.S., and Ph.D.) from Spring 2022 within the existing total student quota of 1,207. From this Fall 2021, SUNY Korea FIT will also expand its program with an increased student quota from 140 to 210. (150 for Fashion Business Management and 60 for Fashion Design in total)     Related Article: Click here 

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, SUNY Korea classes are partly held online, students taking zoom classes whether it be their dormitory or home.   For some FIT classes that require demonstrations with fabrics, the professors are teaching directly from the labs and when necessary, students are taking turns to sign up for using software in the computer lab.   Are you curious of what Fashion majoring students wear during their online classes?   Click here to find out their zoom class looks and read their thoughts on online classes! 

On March 19th, the Opening Ceremony of “Dr. Myung Oh, Gateway to Korean ICT” was held at the IGC Library. Dr. Myung Oh, Honorary President of SUNY Korea, generously donated his personal collection, built during his strenuous journey of furthering the nation's ICT capacity and competence, to the Incheon Global Campus Foundation for students' learning and research.       Former Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Myung Oh is highly acclaimed as a leading figure in constructing the infrastructure of the nation as a world leading ICT powerhouse.       Due to the strict social distancing in place, the event was held only with selected invitees that included Honorary President Dr. Myung Oh, President Emeritus Dr. ChoonHo Kim, President Wonki Min, Former VP for Administration Jongsoo Jay Kim, CEO of IGCF Dr. Kihun Paek and a few other staff members.        Related Articles: Financial News: Click here Kiho Ilbo: Click here

The recent project proposed by SUNY Korea Research & Business Development Foundation was selected as one of the two projects for the "Renovating the Ecosystem in Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ)".    The selected project is entitled "Innovative Cluster Planning for Aerial and Complex Logistics Systems in Port Authority through Robotics, AI, and Automation".        Associate Professor Bruce Jo in Mechanical Engineering Department, the Principal Investigator of the project, stated that SUNY Korea Research & Business Development Foundation will make every effort to 1) build collaborative networks among mid-size logistics companies in IFEZ, 2) strengthen the competitiveness of logistics companies for leaping up to global scales through strategic consulting and guidance from advanced technology partners, and 3) establish strategic partnerships between technology consumers and providers through technical consortium and cross benefit analysis.       Related Articles: JoongAng Ilbo: Click here The Korea Economic Daily: Click here  Seoul Economy: Click here Incheon Ilbo: Click here 

A team of CS Students came in third place in the AI  Contest hosted by Korea Innovation Foundation and KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute). The team, ‘Tacomaster,’ consisted of four students: Junghun Park, Youngho Kim, Hamin Lim and Dajung Choi.   The contest, held from last December to February, required developing an AI model to predict the quantity of the sun rays generated in developing countries. 1472 teams in total participated.   If the AI model is applied in developing countries, it is expected that a supply of energy will be possible in areas with unstable supplies of electricity.   Related article: https://www.boannews.com/media/view.asp?idx=95577&kind=                             http://www.chungnamilbo.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=590337

SUNY Korea was introduced in a TV program called “Welcome to My Village” on SK Broadband BTV. FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology), in particular was mentioned as one of the top three fashion universities in the world. SUNY Korea students, Quinne Murakawa and Danielle Macmaster were interviewed during the program.   Quinne, an FIT student, explained that “I chose to attend the Korean Campus because there would be more opportunities to meet people with different perspectives, while taking advantage of the exact same curriculum of FIT in New York.”   Located in the international city, Songdo, the whole community of SUNY Korea is absolutely delighted to have our students from all over the globe. Dear Students and Faculty,    We have just received confirmation that there are now a total of three confirmed cases on campus from another university in IGC (1 yesterday and 2 today).  As the number of cases is increasing, we strongly recommend that you limit on-campus movement, minimize social interaction, and stay in your residence as much as possible if you are living on campus.  IGCF is currently working with the local health center regarding the investigation, contact tracing, and disinfection. AI (Artificial Intelligence) has immersed itself into the fashion industry field. SUNY Korea FIT Professor Koo Bonkuk has an opinion about the AI technologies used in the abruptly changing fashion industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. SUNY Korea student Hasung Jun (CSE/TSM) released an iPhone app which helps SUNY Korea students manage their course schedule, find a directory, check the academic calendar and locate important contacts.     As a SUNY Korea student, Hasung found there is a need for an application to replace the existing scheduling app, which targets university students in Korea, and in which all the scheduling is done manually.      To turn this ‘need’ into reality, the courses he took in the CSE department helped him in certain ways to build the application. The HCI (Human Computer Interaction) course especially played a role to deliver good UI/UX to students. Professor Alex Kuhn, who taught the HCI, also helped Hasung in various ways: helping to meet Apple’s requirements for application release and giving plenty of feedback.     Prof. Kuhn said, “Hasung approached me with his idea of making the SUNI app for other students. I thought it was a great idea and always love to encourage and support our students in taking on side projects like this. Hasung has done a great job in building upon the concepts he learned in school and applying his knowledge to build and release this app, and I’m proud of what he has accomplished.”     Since it is his first published application, it has captured all of his affection. “I plan to keep updating the app based on the feedback I got from students. I hope SUNI could help make SUNY Korea students’ life a little better”, Hasung said.     The application is available in the AppStore. On February 25, 2021, SUNY Korea Admissions held an information session at SUNY Korea in the IGC campus in Songdo International City. It was geared at about 220 career-counseling teachers in middle and high schools who are members of the career support committee, 'Priming Water‘, a part of the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education (IMOE).         The event inaugurated the appointment ceremony of ‘Priming Water’ 2021, and was attended by 130 out of 220 career-counseling teachers selected from 125 middle and high schools in Incheon, including Bakmun Incheon International High School, Incheon Academy of Science and Arts, Incheon Jinsan Science High School, and Jemulpo High School.         Through this event, SUNY Korea reinforced its cooperative relationship with the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education, and informed the teachers of the mission and values of SUNY Korea.         Oh Sejong, event host and a supervisor at the Department of Secondary Education at IMOE, said, "The excellence of SUNY Korea became well known by this event to the schools in Incheon, and it is also expected that more students will apply to SUNY Korea through future college fairs/information sessions".           This event complied with the guidelines for preventing COVID 19 by measuring body temperatures, enforcing mask-wearing, distributing masks, and encouraging the use of hand sanitizers, all under the supervision of the official from Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education.

SUNY Korea is thrilled to meet our new students in the upcoming semester. The Admissions Team has prepared the Welcome Package for all of your delightful first steps at SUNY Korea.   Also, the whole community at the campus is strictly abiding by the quarantine rules to keep all our students, staff and faculty safe from the coronavirus.     For effective quarantine measures, SUNY Korea is offering the following support for our students during their quarantine period.   Regular Zoom meetings, optional counseling sessions, materials to reflect on, and a list of online activities are provided for the students to have peace of mind during the quarantine period.       We are looking forward to meeting every single one of you here at SUNY Korea, as you join our journey of becoming History Makers!
